Chickens and other urban farm animals

In 2012, the city council passed an ordinance requiring a permit for specific farm animals allowed to be kept on private properties in Shorewood. Please review the ordinance prior to submitting your permit application. The permit fee covers the entire length of time that you house the animals on your property.

Up to six chickens, geese, turkeys, guinea hens, ducks or rabbits are allowed by permit; up to four bee hives. No roosters are allowed. Other rural farm animals, such as goats, pigs and other animals are not allowed.

See the ordinance for complete information, policies, and conditions. Complete the permitting process before you purchase the animals.
