Free COVID testing available to residents

The Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) announced free at-home COVID spit test kits available to all Minnesota residents. The tests are available for no charge with or without insurance, although if you have insurance, the insurance will be billed.

Although MDH says the spit test is as accurate as the nasal swab, MDH also specifies that the test currently available through the mail may not be right for everyone, especially those with low saliva production such as children under 4 and stroke victims.

To order your home test, you submit a copy of your insurance card (front and back), if available, and a photo ID. Once you receive the kit, connect virtually with a representative from Vault Health. Follow the instructions exactly and mail the kit back in the provided prepaid envelope. Test results will be emailed to you within 24 to 48 hours.

For more information or to get a test, see the MDH COVID website.
