This is a volunteer program to help beautify our community. Groups or individuals who adopt one of the park entrances, or the signs at City Hall are responsible for planting, weeding and watering of adopted area. For more information contact City Hall at 952.960.7900.

Step To It Challenge

Don't miss the chance to represent Shorewood in the county competition of the Step To It Challenge! This is an all-age competition and the entire family will have fun seeing who gets the most steps in for the month of May. Free t-shirts, pedometers, and bags are at city hall for those who register. Participants qualify for free Twins tickets and the chance to help our city be the winner of the most steps.

Arctic Fever

Winter gets heated up with Arctic Fever, a community wide event offering non-stop activities to choose from for all ages. This event takes place the third weekend in January.

Minnesota Zoomobile
Friday, June 16, 11 am

No registration is required. All ages.
The Minnesota Zoo will bring a variety of animals. The show runs about 45 minutes.

Kite Making
Friday, June 30, 10 am-Noon

Ages 7-11. Registration is required. Maximum number is 12. Learn to make a 28" tall x 35" wide sled kite. You will also learn safety tips on flying kites. Register online.

Bell Museum: Honey Bees and Pollination
Friday, July 21 from 10-Noon

Ages K-8 grade. Registration is required. Maximum number is 30. Honey bees program (focus on honey bees, their life cycles, social behaviors, and beekeeping) with a pollination program--why is pollination important for plants, how does it work, flower dissection, how does pollination affect our lives?.

Friday, July 28 from 10 am-Noon

Ages 10-13. Registration is required. Maximum number is 20. Three Rivers Park District is hosting this activity. Learn the basics of (GPS) Global Positioning Technology then use the internet to find local geocaches! Hunt for hidden treasure and use our GPS units to play an updated version of Capture the Flag! Register on-line.

Science Explorers: Myth Busting 101

Entering Grades 1-5. Maximum 20.

Mind-blowing myths or scientific facts? Join Science Explorers as we confirm or bust strange myths and wacky urban legends. We will ask the crazy questions, develop hypotheses, then we may smash it, crash it, sink it or launch it to determine if the myth is confirmed, plausible or busted.

GPS & Geocaching presented by Three Rivers Park District

This program for grade school age kids teaches the basics of Global Positioning System, and mastering the buttons and functions of GPS units, then uses the internet to find local geocaches. Three Rivers provides all the equipment and will hide objects in the park for the geocache search.

Gideon Glen - 5620 County Road 19
Located on County Road 19 next door to the MGM Liquor and across the street from Tonka Bay Shopping Center.

Gideon Glen, a 5.8-acre parcel with an old-growth remnant of the Big Woods on its west side, was purchased by the city in 2000 with the financial assistance from Minnehaha Creek Watershed District.

The Gideon Glen project is meant to be educational complete with observation areas and informational kiosks. The view west to the woods is intended not to be accessible to insure the preservation of these sensitive areas; however, the wetland restoration will give residents a sense of what the Lake Minnetonka area was like in pre-settlement times once vegetation has had an opportunity to mature. The wetland project came together financially with funds by the City (through a $75,000 grant from the Metropolitan Council), the MCWD, and Hennepin County (through the CR 19 project.)

South Shore Community Park

5355 St. Ablans Bay Rd: From Highway 7 and Hwy 19 East on Hwy 7 to Christmas
Lake Rd. Turn left. Turn right on Old Excelsior Blvd. St. Albans Bay Rd is on the right at top of hill.

South Shore Community Park currently houses one set of Shorewood's community gardens. The city is disucssing future use of this space. If you have feedback about this space, please email the city with your ideas.



Safety Camp

This popular camp teaches kids personal, bike, fire, water, and animal safety, plus much more! Instructors include local police and fire personnel, plus representatives from Hennepin County Water Patrol, AAA, and more. Special guests and lots of fun are guaranteed. Price includes lunch and snacks. Register early to make sure your child gets a spot! Watch for a complete schedule.

Summer Rec at Freeman Park

9 am - Noon, Ages 4-11
A morning of supervised fun in the park! This morning is full of crafts, games and lots of play! Bring a snack, water bottle, sunscreen and bug spray. Registration opens soon.


Crescent Beach

Birch Bluff Road: From Hwy 19 and Smithtown Rd: Go west on Smithtown Rd to Eureka Rd. Turn right to Birch Bluff Rd. Follow Birch Bluff Road as it turns left toward the lake

Beach Lifeguards
Lifeguard services at Crescent Beach take place daily Noon-5 pm, June 10 to August 13. Swimmers should check the city website for Hennepin County beach closure alerts. Maintenance of the beach area is handled by the City of Tonka Bay. Please address maintenance concerns to them at 952.474.7994.

Southshore Center

Shorewood is home to the Southshore Center. This beautiful facility is located next to Shorewood City Hall at 5735 Country Club Road. Southshore Center offers a variety of daily activities, outings, classes, and special events. The Center is open weekdays from 8:30 to 3:30. Beyond housing various programs and general community events, it is a wonderful facility for private parties or meetings.
