Shorewood residents also have access to Carver County Environmental Services drop-off facility in Chaska, a closer option for many residents. Materials accepted, hours and fees are different than Hennepin County, so read the information carefully.
Medicine Drop Off Locations
Hennepin County has placed drop off bins for prescription and other unused medications at various locations throughout the county for the free disposal of medicines. Storing unused medicines in the home can be dangerous. Prescription drug abuse among the teen population and there is a risk of accidental poisonings. Disposing of medicines down the drain or in the garbage can cause groundwater contamination. The drop-off sites are free and easy to use. Complete instructions and a list of accepted and unaccepted items should be reviewed before using the drop-offs.
Electronics and Computer Disposal
Not only do many computers and other electronics contain materials that are hazardous in landfills, but many of the components can also be recycled. There are many free options for residents to dispose of electronics safely. Hennepin County drop-off facilities accept many items at no charge, Carver County Environmental Services accepts many items for a small fee, and many independent businesses accept various electronics, including such stores as Best Buy, Office Depot, Staples and more.
