Volunteer for a Shorewood Board or Commission
A great way to become active and participate in your community is to join one of the City’s boards or commissions. If you are interested serving, please consider applying, or sharing this post with a friend or neighbor who may be interested. Currently, the City is taking applications for the following board and commission seats:
The Shorewood Planning Commission reviews and advises on matters related to land use within the City. The Commission reviews land use applications, considers variance requests, comments on zoning code or comprehensive plan amendments, and holds public hearings. The Commission works closely with City staff and makes recommendations to the City Council. The Commission generally meets one evening per month. Commissioners serve a three-year term. Currently two terms will expire at the end of February.
The Shorewood Park Commission plans for the long-term needs of the City’s parks and recreation facilities. It helps prepare a capital improvement plan, makes operational recommendations, and oversees the City’s Integrated Pest Management Plan. The Commission works closely with City staff and makes recommendations to the City Council. The Commission generally meets one evening per month. Commissioners serve a three-year term. There will be one vacancy on the Park Commission at the end of February.
Lake Minnetonka Communications Commission
Lake Minnetonka Communications Commission (LMCC) is an agency formed by a Joint Powers Agreement between 11 area communities, whose purpose is to oversee the franchise agreement with the cable operator, currently Mediacom, and to promote awareness and use of community television. LMCC provides for public television access and broadcasts public meetings for its member cities. The Commission generally meets four times per year. Please visit the LMCC website for more information or contact Jim Lundberg, Executive Director, at Jim@lmcc-tv.org or 952-471-7125 x104.
Minnetonka Community Education Advisory Council
The Minnetonka Community Education (MCE) Advisory Council is advisory by nature. The Advisory Council advises and supports the MCE Executive Director by providing input on current and potential programming, and on community needs and interests. The Advisory Council serves as a forum for discussion of community opportunities and challenges. Members actively participate in four to five meetings per year. Furthermore, members advocate for Minnetonka Public Schools and the Minnetonka Community Education program to neighbors, friends and community members and volunteer as time permits. Visit the MCE website for more information or contact Tim Litfin, Executive Director, at email@example.com or 952-401-5043.
